Now, I know it's only pre-season, but ...
The QB position for the 2008 version of the Baltimore Ravens still looks a bit shaky to me. The "all-to-familiar" interceptions, turnovers, and falling down seem to plague the position. According to Coach Harbaugh, the competition for the starting QB is between Kyle Boller and Troy Smith. Yikes! Rookie QB Joe Flacco hasn't shown much in two pre-season appearances, but after all, he's a rookie ... there's a big learning curve between the University of Delaware and the Baltimore Ravens. It is only the pre-season and it doesn't really count, but the highlight reels will be rather small if things don't begin to click by the time the season opens next month. Two more pre-season tune-ups to go.
There are some real bright spots. Yamon Figurs has established himself as a legit return man and the Ravens kicking game (Stover and Koch) are solid. Looking at the second and third string players doesn't really reveal allot about the team. When the Ravens take the field in the season opener on September 7 at M&T Bank Stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals, the full complement of first string players will be there ... both on offense and defense. It's just that I am not particularly excited about the first string QB. I'll keep my hopes up that whoever starts the game has been keeping a little in reserve ... playing conservatively to stay healthy. And at the end of the day ... on September 7 ... there will be a "W" for the Ravens next to the scoreboard.
GO RAVENS!!!
